After a lot of research and planning, and one failed trip, I finally found (arguably) the rarest trout in the world. #lifer #seleniris

I usually use twitter for work stuff, but decided to let worlds collide today: 1. I'm a drummer in a band, and we just released our new album: open.spotify.com/album/0DAYzS5N… 2. I recently caught a pretty big trout, documented in a video by a trout vlogger: youtu.be/Sbr3OBr6gRs?t=…

Winter-run Chinook #salmon make a perilous journey each year from Keswick Dam on the Sacramento River to the Pacific Ocean. NOAA scientists tag and track these fish to determine how many make it under the Golden Gate bridge.🌁 Follow the fish's progress: oceanview.pfeg.noaa.gov/CalFishTrack/p…

Testing a new (to me) method of batch marking juvenile Kokanee using fluorescent grit. Similar methods have been used to monitor cutthroat trout in Utah reservoirs for several years. No mortality after a week, >98% success rate, and many lessons learned.

I don't typically agree with this guy, but for this we're on a trans- Atlantic mind meld. Boris Johnson says cheese and coffee can distract when working from home theguardian.com/politics/2022/…

Ever heard of acoustic telemetry??? Our #UCSC researchers have been using it to conduct two important studies on threatened populations of Chinook salmon and steelhead trout in the Central Valley. Read more about their research in this thread! bit.ly/3srT8j5 (1/4)

Our Salmon Team, along with volunteers from UC Davis and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, successfully completed a first catch-and-release sampling effort for adult Fall-Run Chinook Salmon. 17 salmon were successfully captured, acoustically tagged, and released thanks to their hard work. Excited to see the findings of a very fun and interesting project in print! Thank you to the City of Redding for letting us play with the lights on their iconic Sundial Bridge!

#HotOffThePress! The last chapter of my PhD is officially out for all to see. We looked at how temperature impacted predation of juvenile Chinook salmon in CA, based on the physiology of salmon and their common predators. A quick 🧵on what we found (1/6) doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.4…

Herring release bubbles from their anuses when scared or during ascent or descent. These are called "fast repetitive ticks" or FRTs. FRTing may also serve a social function. 💨 There's more: fws.gov/fish-of-the-we… The tail end of a Pacific Herring 📷 Alex Heyman #AllTheFish
