As Frank Cottrell-Boyce says in the article, the solution is in our hands. Stop closing libraries. Retain school librarians and employ many more. Fund author visits to schools. Publishers, stop throwing cash at celebrities and focus instead on engaging young readers. We can fix this.

Sad times. Totally agree with more comics/libraries but I wonder how many parents read for pleasure? I certainly struggle to find time. So where do kids see role models reading? You’ll be surprised to know that even on CBeebies Bedtime Story they don’t actually hold a book…
