๐ The seal pupping season is almost here ๐๐ถ You may spot the white pups alone on sheltered beaches ๐๐๏ธ Their mum is usually in the water nearby searching for food! ๐ โ ๏ธPups are vulnerable to disturbance so stay at least 50m awayโ ๏ธ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Ceredigion Council Wildlife Trusts Wales

#WackyWednesday ๐ Chitons are a type of mollusc ๐ and are sometimes called coat of mail shells due to the 8 interlocking shell plates on their backs ๐ก๏ธ The shell is very flexible and they can roll into a ball if threatened โฝ๐คฉ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales

#TwitchingTuesdays ๐ฆ More of a chocolate-brown headed gull ๐ซ it's head is actually white for most of the year! โช Part of its Latin name means laughing due to their ke-ke-ke' and 'kverarrr' calls ๐ถ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales

How to tell 2 common UK sharks apart: smallspotted catshark (Left) - nasal flaps extend to mouth. Bullhuss (aka nursehound, Right) don't. Recorded 100s of both in Welsh pot fisheries Bangor University - Sustainable Fisheries Research (Bullhuss also much, much angrier)

Seals come to land to rest ๐ด, moult their fur ๐, mate and give birth ๐ถ If you spot a seal on the shore then please watch it from a distance!! ๐ โ ๏ธPlease note this photo was taken from distance with a zoom lens and cropped ๐ธ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales

๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ Our #LivingSeas team discovered this lobster carapace whilst beach cleaning ๐ฎ Common lobsters are a deep blue colour ๐คฏ When alive their red pigment is bound to a protein ๐ต Cooking a lobster breaks this bond, releasing the pigment which turns them red! ๐ฆ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales

๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ It's a great time of year to find natural treasures washed up our beaches ๐๏ธ #LivingSeas volunteer Cody found these queen scallop shells whilst walking along New Quay Harbour Beach ๐๐ฆช WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales Cody Ayre Higgins

Sharks' skin is covered in tiny flat V-shaped teeth, also known as dermal denticles ๐ฆ. Sharks have dermal denticles rather than scales because it decreases drag & turbulence. As they are top predators, they need to be able to swim fasterโก and more quietly! ๐คซ WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales

With around 500 shark species swimming in our oceans๐, itโs no surprise that thereโs a diversity in reproduction strategies among them ๐ฆ.ย Do you know any sharks & what reproduction strategy they exhibit? Leave your comments down below๐๐ค WildlifeTrustSWWales ๐ฆก๐ฌ Wildlife Trusts Wales
