A pretty damning review of the pretrial detention expansion by the Council's racial equity office. It says the policy disproportionately affects Black residents, but also finds no evidence that it decreases crime. In fact, it "can lead to increased crime." lims.dccouncil.gov/downloads/LIMS…

THREAD. It is an honor to announce that we have just sued the Riverside Sheriff, Riverside County, and the Riverside Superior Court in a landmark case challenging the constitutionality of jailing presumed innocent people solely because they cannot pay cash bail.

This marks the latest case in our series of civil rights lawsuits for the last decade that have freed 100,000s of people from illegal jailing. Wealth-based jailing separates families, destroys lives, causes catastrophic financial harm to communities, and makes everyone less safe.

Among others, we represent a teenager illegally jailed and charged with shoplifting and a local Rabbi and Reverend who are taking a stand against one of the most arbitrary and senseless policies in our society. Only the U.S. and the Philippines have for-profit bail industry.

BREAKING! 🚨 In a move that protects financial interests and ignores the law and will of Congress, the FCC just delayed the implementation of new regulations that would lower prison and jail call rates by 2 years. The rules were set to save families over $500 million per year.

Senate Bill 331 has been shelved. This bill, an extension of the CARE Court nightmare, classifies any DSM diagnosis as a “mental health disorder” eligible for involuntary commitment, including, for example, gender dysphoria, caffeine withdrawal, or restless leg syndrome.

We’re often told that the way we’re going to be (and feel) safer is through more police, more jails, and more punishment. But what if that's just what we're being LED to believe? Actually... what if that’s a trap? 🧵(1/3)

The most significant way Santa Clara County reduced the jail population was by eliminating money bail for most charges. No increase in crime. Then, inexplicably in 2022, they ended this "zero dollar bail" policy. It's been time to bring it back. Read why: siliconvalleydebug.org/stories/if-san…

Asylums are and have always been a re brand of eugenics, mass incarceration but with less due process and human experimentation. America is Legislating a Return to the Asylum, One Policy at a Time - Mad In America.
