Please say no to pesticides and herbicides. Cocktails of these chemicals in fields, gardens, parks, verges and community spaces are poisoning wildlife including bees, birds, hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles, frogs, damselflies. They pollute our rivers. Let's give nature a chance.

As we approach the time of year where we instinctively want to cut everything back for the sake of “tidiness,” I implore that you don’t! Our hedgerows in particular are about to come alive with #wildlife! These Ivy flowers are about to provide for our later emerging insects, and

I don’t want next year to be “the one”. I also don’t want it to be “my year”, someone else can have it. I would like to slip through 2024 quietly and unnoticed, to remain as lightly scuffed as possible. An adequate, inconsequential, nothing-to-write-home-about 366 days (it’s a

If you're looking for a project this sunny weekend, a pond is the very best thing you can add to your garden. Size doesn't matter (although, like TVs if you can go big - do!) as even the smallest will be the biggest prize to all your garden visitors. No wiring or pumps/filters

Utterly disgusting to see the Green Party excluded from this. We are standing in every single seat in England and Wales. We have elected parliamentary representation, more than 800 councillors and look likely to win multiple MPs on July 4th. Invite the Greens now!

still thinking of how Obama said, “We live in a time of such confusion and rancor, with a culture that puts a premium on things that don’t last—money, fame, status, likes. We chase the approval of strangers on our phones … and then wonder why we feel so alone.”

I'm writing today about kennings in Old English. Essentially these are two word-metaphors that were used instead of concrete nouns, and they are exquisite. A ship was a 'wave-horse', the sea was a 'whale-road', the mind was a 'thought-chamber', and the sun was a 'sky-candle'.
