The Patriots keep making the play when they need it. They've got the ball back up 13-0 with a chance to take a three-score lead in the second half.

The Patriots have run 9 plays for 20 yards in the second half -- and they've still outscored the Bengals in the second half.

So much has gone right for the Patriots today. But now they're going to have to hang on to a one-score, fourth-quarter lead on the road with an offense that's struggled in the second half. Buckle up.

This has been such a good defensive gameplan and performance from the Patriots' secondary. They've kept everything in front of them and haven't given Joe Burrow any windows for a deep shot. Burrow has 159 yards on 26 attempts.

This is Rhamondre Stevenson’s first 100-yard rushing game since his homecoming in Las Vegas Week 14 of the 2022 season. It’s the fifth 100-yard rushing game of his career.

Final: Patriots 16, Bengals 10 The Patriots made a plan to run the ball and play good defense while remaining competent during this rebuild. Many (me included) were skeptical. In the opener, their plan worked perfectly.

The Patriots sideline is pumped. Big-time celebration. Jerod Mayo got a water jug dumped on him. They've heard all offseason about how bad they were going to be. Today, they started the Mayo era by going to Cincinnati and beating a Super Bowl contender.

Jabrill Peppers said he could barely walk yesterday due to a hip injury. This morning, he walked across the street to a Holiday Inn to use their pool to loosen up the injury and prove to trainers he could play. (The team hotel didn’t have a pool.)

The Patriots’ sideline was a massive celebration after an upset win. After months of hearing how bad they were, it was a deserved party. On a Pats plan that worked and a 1-0 start: nytimes.com/athletic/57540…

Thought Patriots rookie RG Layden Robinson had some nice moments in the run game today. Brought some real physicality to that right side.

New | The #Bengals lost on Sunday, but it capped off a weekend of losing on all levels. They have endured ugly openers before, but the combination of all going off the field as well as on it made this feel the most ominous of all. nytimes.com/athletic/57541…

NEW COLUMN: Tom Brady sounded like a nervous rookie in his debut.  Now, Fox and Brady have the whole season to prepare him for the Super Bowl ... or they will all be nervous. nytimes.com/athletic/57545…
