TYSM to our mentors at the annual #VirtualNetworking event: Dr. Kathleen Johnson Beth Caissie Brigitta Rongstad Strong, PhD Jordan Abell Matthew E. Kirby (he/him/his) for leading conversations about #JEDI, #academic postitions and transitions to #nonacademic positions... A few things we learned
Good morning from the EnCo/CJI/WUICAN Connecting Fragmented Landscapes workshop at UCI! 🌤We are kicking off the day with a packed ballroom and keystone speakers— shown here is Naomi Knox's talk about Tule Stewardship at San Joaquin Marsh Reserve. @r_j_shop UC Irvine MCRS
Research Justice Shop UC Irvine MCRS Next keystone speaker Kelley Lê calls out the persistent lack of justice in climate change education, and ongoing/future initiatives that will collaboratively address this gap Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects
Research Justice Shop UC Irvine MCRS Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects Angela Mooney D'Arcy (Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples), keystone speaker, spoke of "fractured" landscapes and erasure of tribal members at UCI. We need more relational work, institutional memory, connecting climate justice struggles w/ militarization + colonialism
Research Justice Shop UC Irvine MCRS Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects After lunch break-- CJI fellow presentations are up. 1st up: Fellows partnering with Orange County Environmental Justice share plans to measure PFAS in Orange County waters while raising community awareness about PFAS (maybe coming soon to a neighborhood block party near you? 🪩)
2nd CJI Talk: Fellows partnering w/Orange County Environmental Justice and GREEN-MPNA discuss work on Pb exposure and adverse health outcomes in Santa Ana. The term "fractured" was used to describe how academic practices hinder true collaboration in CBPR.
5th CJI Talk: Fellows working with Orange County Environmental Justice continue the focus on Santa Ana, and describe the history of industrialization and white flight. They seek to develop a composite index, or EJ Score, for mapping purposes. They will also support OCEJ in door knocking + focus groups.
Yep. It's AGU (American Geophysical Union) time! Check out our AGU Paleo Section session - PP035: Undergraduate and Early-Stage Graduate Student Posters in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology. A great opportunity for low stress, high reward presentations. It was a BIG hit last year. Join us! 🙂
Calling all early career researchers: we want to boost abstract submissions from #ECRs in the paleo community for #AGU24! 🌍 Tag AGU Paleo Section Early Career Researchers with your abstract submission info for a retweet and more visibility. Let’s amplify your research! 🧑🔬👩🔬
I'm recruiting a postdoc in climate and land stewardship to start this fall! Candidates with experience in ecology, semi-arid ecosystems, and Indigenous knowledges are encouraged to apply. UCI Ecology and Evolutionary Biol Please RT. recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF08685
