We've found the long-sought 'off-switch' for the algal CO₂-concentrating mechanism (CCM)! It’s a new repressor protein that directly binds to the CCM's 'accelerator'—the master activator CCM1/CIA5—and is essential for cellular energy saving. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
