London PCR Tests in previous 7 days: 17th December - 381k 10th December - 248k A 53% increase in a week - no wonder this "new strain" is so much more transmissible. Test positivity has increased but not as sharply; looking at case rates in isolation is meaningless.

Increase in testing in Havering seems rather dramatic. Positivity not increasing. What is going on?

Weekly testing is up 25%. In the week up to 23 Dec there were just over 3 million tests carried out compared to 2.4 million the previous week. Daily tests exceeded 500k for the first time with 507k virus tests reported, 12% (54k) above the previous high.

This cannot be repeated enough. We know is at risk and who is not. So let's have a more targeted approach that doesn't inflict so much harm on the whole population.
