NDMA presented the Ending Drought Emergency Common Programming Framework (EDE CPF) during a panel discussion on ending drought emergencies at the 4th Pastoralist Leadership Summit.

PS Kello Harsama was joined by NDMA Board Chair Shallow Yahya, Dr. Guyo Malicha, and Hon. Elijah Memusi, MP for Kajiado Central. Together, they engaged in meaningful dialogue on strategies to enhance resilience among pastoralist communities and improve food security.

PS Kello Harsama,CBS highlighted the impact of the drought that occurred from 2021 to 2023, which resulted in the loss of over 2.6 million herds of cattle across northern Kenya, affecting 23 ASAL counties. The panel discussed interventions aimed at preventing a similar occurence

interventions include: Developing policy on feedlots Establishing water infrastructure to facilitate dryland development. Constructing mega dams enabling local pastoralists to produce their own food and Promoting fodder production and storage.

The panelists concurred that it is possible to end drought emergencies and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and innovative solutions to build resilience against drought and ensure sustainable livelihoods for pastoralist communities #PLSWajir2024
