For too long, section 21 has meant many tenants fear eviction simply for asking for repairs - as Tom Darling says, "England has the weakest tenant protections in all of Europe". The Renters' Rights Bill cannot come soon enough. mylondon.news/news/property/…

🚨GREAT NEWS FOR RENTERS🚨 Last night, we defeated last-ditch amendments that would have weakened tenants' rights and shifted power back towards landlords. The Bill now just needs sign-off from the Commons (and the King) before becoming the Renters' Rights Act!

So excited to host our Renters' Rights Awareness Week webinar later, reflecting on the ending Section 21 campaign - not quite over the line yet, but feels right to pause and reflect. Please join me, the formidable Dan Wilson Craw 🇺🇦🥑🏘, and more at 6pm: generationrent.org/renters-rights…

The Renters' Rights Bill has been APPROVED by the House of Commons! This is the final step before the Bill receives Royal Assent, which we expect shortly. No more amendments, no more debate - renters' rights are coming.

"Today is a momentous day" says Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook MP, rightly proud of the Renters' Rights Bill as it passes its final hurdle without needing a vote. Waiting for the King's signature in next week or so, when date will be set for ban of Section 21 'no fault' evictions!

UPDATE: We did it! The Renters’ Rights Bill has now PASSED through the House of Commons. We expect it to reach Royal Assent shortly. This is a huge win after years of campaigning by renters. There's more to do, but this is worth celebrating!

Many private renters live in damp and mouldy homes - one in five of which don't meet the decent homes standard. The Government must announce the date for Awaab's Law to be extended to the private rented sector ASAP

Our Deputy Chief Executive, Dan Wilson Craw 🇺🇦🥑🏘, has worked to end Section 21, no fault evictions for over a decade. Now unfair evictions are being abolished, you can read his reflections in his Big Issue op ed below. 👇 bigissue.com/opinion/renter…

We did it! More than a decade of campaigning led to this moment. The most heartfelt thank you to every supporter, employee, volunteer, funder and ally of Generation Rent. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but together we’ve secured the biggest reforms to private renting in a generation!

Homes are the foundations of our lives. Evictions shatter those foundations Last night the Renters' Rights Act became law, paving the way for the end of S21 evictions The Government must bring in the changes ASAP to prevent more renters like Christina experiencing this turmoil

I'm on holiday but so good to see this is finally The Law. For too long landlords have had too much power, leading to poor quality accommodation, excessive rent rises and undue stress every time your tenancy comes up for renewal. These reforms are a huge step forward for renters

The changes in the Renters' Rights Act are basic rights - if landlords don't want to provide a decent property, or to need a reason to evict tenants, perhaps they shouldn't be letting out homes. Our Press Officer Paul spoke to Carole Walker on Times Radio last night 👇

Selective licensing is used by councils to improve housing standards for renters. When someone as senior as the Chancellor fails to comply, in undermines the entire system. Leadership means setting an example. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
