I was wrong about Trump Entire Trump family are nepotistic extractive grifters, probably sets crypto back a decade after leaving office Getting us into another large scale conflict in the Middle East after he campaigned against the Iraq war and foreign wars for other nations

I often think that Christianity in Nigeria needs to "grow up". It cannot be obsessed with "personal prosperity", while the society it operates in, is basically burning to the ground.

In 1970, two women in Kwara were already married under native custom. They had a settled home and two beautiful children recognised by tradition. But then a man took them to court, claiming it wasn't a real marriage. This story was done in collaboration with The NATIVE.

There are West African countries today that are named on the same premise as Israel but nobody is silly enough to fervently believe a claim that the modern states of Mali and Ghana are the literal successors and spiritual heirs of the old Mali and Ghana empires.

From Ife's ethnic clashes to Ikorodu Badoo, to South-South kidnappers and northern Muslim extremists, Nigerians face insecurity everywhere.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There are clashes in Plateau, Ekiti, Benue and killings in Southern Kaduna. We can continue the gross list of HUMAN insecurity in Nigeria.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We can die like flies. The govt rarely cares. But it cares when it senses an attack directed at 'STATE SECURITY'. It swings into action.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Now, here's where a lot of us are very foolish. When we see the govt protect itself against attack, we assume HUMAN SECURITY is a reason.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We start to perceive the govt as our friend and we start showing support for its actions, no matter how unjustifiable in the circumstances.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is natural, everyone wants a working govt, and it is natural to assume when State Security is obtained, Human Security will be next.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But Nigerian history has shown us, again and again, that this is a false hope. The govt still doesn't care about human security.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A good test is to consider the way that state security is protected. A govt that wipes out a whole village doesn't care about its citizens.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes, in most instances, threats against State Security are also threats against Human Security, eg Boko Haram. And we gain in the process.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But that is where the protection of Human Security often ends. After that, even soldiers & police can kill civilians without accountability.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Again, the real enemy of our human security is the current structure of the Nigerian government and the political class that controls it.

Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When you clap for the successful protection of state security, never forget that your own human life is still vulnerable and very insecure.
