More gambling industry freebies for government and sad to see Prostate Cancer UK helping to wash the industry's reputation for a few quid. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

The Deputy Chief Whip Mark Tami MP’s son is a lobbyist for the Betting and Gaming Council. To say there is a revolving door between Labour MPs/staffers and the gambling lobby would be an understatement. Let’s see if Rachel Reeves ignores that and does what’s best for the country

Remote gaming (online slots etc) is completely unregulated in NI, and is more harmful than land-based gambling - yet pays less tax. The APG supports a 'polluter pays' approach, whereby the most harmful gambling products are taxed at the highest rate. This report makes the case👇

I wrote to the commission, asking for an update on the investigation they announced in 2017 into the flawed self exclusion schemes in place. They replied today. As expected, they told me it's a secret. Completely ineffective and unaccountable organisation.

A fundamental aspect of regulation is transparency. Repeated claims of “commercial sensitivity” and “we need to maintain the confidence of industry” should be red flags for a failing regulator. The current level of people harmed by gambling shows Gambling Commission is failing its duty.

“Am I the only person this has happened to?” The myth that gambling is a normal, safe activity can lead bereaved families to feel isolated. At GwL, no bereaved person will feel alone. gamblingwithlives.org/family-service/

How many hundreds of thousands is that being harmed? Around 380,000 I think. And many more harmed indirectly as a result of being an affected other.

Martin Jones (@martinj25530514) 's Twitter Profile Photo

An industry which harms 3 or 4 times as many people than it employs needs to think about what benefit, if any, it gives to society. Especially when each and every one of those directly harmed has 6 to 10 others who are harmed indirectly.

Children need to be protected not groomed. “95% of people felt more comfortable about talking about gambling” is a non-measure. How many fewer children gamble? How many fewer uni students harmed by gambling? After 10 years these numbers should be going down and they’re not.

If open banking spots gambling harm, why can’t the high tech well funded smartest people in the room based industry machine learning algorithms do it? Objective to maximise profit not prevent harm? Ineffective regulation? Why Spain is looking at imposing regulator algorithm?
