Last year we froze prescription charges for the first time in years. We’re freezing prescription charges AGAIN - and we’ve kept all the exemptions for those who need them.

“The elected chamber has approved assisted dying and it has the support of most voters. It will be disgraceful if it fails to become law because it is “talked out” by a clique of unelected peers.” Great piece by Andrew Rawnsley

Now that the madness of last week has settled I think it’s important to highlight how obscene the ticket prices are for the World Cup next year. Not missed a home game since 2008. Barely missed an away game since Covid but likely to be priced out of The World Cup

Some great results in from the latest multiplication tables check, with progress being made on last year. 🚀 Labour demands high and rising standards for all children, not just a lucky few.

Today I received my follow-up cancer scan without being asked to pay a penny. An NHS free at the point of use - revolutionary in 1948 and essential today. Owned by us for all of us. I’ll always defend it. (And thanks Royal Free London!)

A very messy run up to the budget but I think the Chancellor deserves huge credit for more than doubling the fiscal headroom thereby reducing the chances of another difficult budget next year.

Assisted dying bill is safer than any other in the world: “I am sure there are many peers who want to scrutinise the bill in a sensible way, but they are being thwarted by a handful who seem intent on stopping law change at any cost.” Dr Jacky Davis theguardian.com/society/2025/d…

Everyone agrees a 5yr wait for a trial is unacceptable. Every day, circa 10% of crown courts sit empty because the government refuses to pay to staff them. Every area of the justice system has been pillaged and defunded since 2010. Blaming juries for the backlog is mendacious.

Robert Largan James Cleverley also advocated for Alaa El-Fattah and your Government granted British citizenship by registration in 2021- to someone who had never lived in the UK. Lots of learning for both parties for this debacle.
