Across corpora of child speech as young as 6-12 months 👶, we see long range, power-law, relationships in speech. If these relationships aren’t coming from linguistic structure, where are they coming from? 6/n

Excited to announce this paper is out! We show that brain responses to speech sounds are sensitive to phonemic category even in the absence of acoustic contrast, and we also find some evidence that acoustic covariance may be important to that process nature.com/articles/s4146…
