SB 79 — our bill allowing more homes near train, subway & rapid bus stops — is gaining momentum, including from environmentalists. Powerful piece by Tom Steyer — a leading environmentalist — about why the bill is so important for more housing, stronger transit & climate action.

For too long, California’s outdated zoning codes have acted like a choke hold, cutting off the supply of new housing and driving prices sky high. If California is serious about affordability, sustainability and urban vitality, SB79 is one of the smartest tools we have.

I’ve been saying this for a while now. not only does the blue state inability to build housing make rents more expensive, it’s significantly handicapping us on the federal stage. NIMBYs are sabotaging the Democratic Party

Didn't the Supreme Court just drop an opinion that was like "Emperor God King Trump can fire anyway he wants except the Fed, that's different for unclear reasons we just made up".

It's going to be really important to connect an attempted firing of a Federal Reserve governor to peoples' personal finances and the stability of the U.S. economy and markets. Making this about one person and process does not convey the gravity for a person's 401k etc.

Personally, I think Whitmer’s bet on a 3% chance of becoming POTUS over a 70% chance of winning a Senate seat is highly questionable.

“But Paris has no tall buildings and they have no housing crisis!” I’m sorry but you have to build more housing if you want to stay affordable. Sometimes that means going up.

Real Democratic trifecta constitutional hardball is stuff like this. Senate’s structurally imbalanced? Mint some new states. These would both be Dem and it’s one of the less advantageous ways of drawing it.

So this woman is brought to the US when she's eight years old, becomes a scholarship university student to become a nurse... and is then seized by ICE, and kept in harsh captivity for six months - which wouldn't happen to most actual criminals. Why do this? Who was she hurting

Jon Lovett’s face when LA City Councilmember Imelda Padilla said she forced an affordable housing project to go down from six stories to three stories and add in EV charging spaces

Here’s Councilmember Imelda Padilla bragging about reducing the size of a 100% affordable housing project and increasing the amount of parking at the project while arguing against SB 79. (ED 1 is an affordable housing program in LA.)

Very illuminating clip here: LA City Councilmember Imelda Padilla (Councilmember Imelda Padilla) criticizes SB 79 because it limits local elected officials’ power to block new housing, then Jon Lovett reminds her that we have a massive housing shortage that is strangling our state’s growth.

It's not just that she admitted this, but that she cited it as a *positive example* of LA meeting community needs and why local control is good! Completely insane!
