All eyes are on a lawsuit filed by anti-abortion organizations & physicians alleging the FDA didn't conduct the proper trials & statistical analysis required to approve mifepristone. They are asking the Court to revoke the FDA's approval of the drug. kff.org/report-section…

Briefs are due tomorrow and this case could result in a preliminary injunction that could block access to mifepristone across the country. To be clear, mifepristone has a safety record that is over 20 years long and has been reviewed multiple times by the FDA over the years.

If the judge issues a preliminary injunction and blocks Mifepristone, safe and effective early abortion options (aspiration abortions or misoprostol only) are available, but this ruling could limit an abortion option w/a strong safety record and lead to delays in abortion access.

🚨Judge Reed O'Connor STRIKES DOWN a major provision of the Affordable Care Act requiring insurers to cover a vast amount of preventive care cost-free (contraception, cancer screening, PrEP, a ton of pregnancy-related care). The ruling applies nationwide. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

Fifteen states have policies to protect no-copay preventive services if the ACA provision is nullified. commonwealthfund.org/blog/2022/aca-… But those state protections don't—can't—extend to self-insured employer plans (which is to say, most private insurance)

Some trans men & non-binary folks menstruate, give birth, have abortions, use birth control, face infertility, etc. Their experiences & needs matter. Public health’s continued use of inaccurate, gendered language in SRH is violent erasure that MUST change. #TransDayOfVisibility

Keep in mind. The bombshell Texas Mifepristone case is first and foremost about the rights of women, not the state, to control their lives, but it’s also about the authority of FDA (and by implication government) to carry out is statutory mandate.

Big news on the #MedicationAbortion front today. My @kff colleague Laurie Sobel and I just posted a Q & A on the conflicting federal rulings. kff.org/policy-watch/q…

NEW: We have an order in the mife case. Fifth Circuit halts the part of Kacsmaryk’s ruling that would block FDA approval of mifepristone, but says he can block actions the FDA took from 2016 on. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
