Networking isn’t about reaching out to as many people as possible. It’s about connecting with people who you can learn from — and who might learn from you. hbr.org/2019/11/the-se…

AI is the first big new wave of technology we've had since startups started going public much later. The result is a unique problem: public market investors who want to invest in AI have few options. Most of the good investments are still private.

There are only two ways to satisfy the demand for public AI companies. 1. Companies that are already public will try to claim they're AI companies, possibly by buying actual AI startups. 2. AI startups will go public faster than they would have otherwise.

It may well turn out that neither route produces good investments. Companies taking route 1 are playing to the public markets, and that doesn't work long term. And good startups tempted to take route 2 will probably find private investors willing to pay whatever they want.

Related to what I wrote last month, but my emphasis was on what it took to get the thing passed; Appelbaum on "creating facts" that will make the policy durable 2/ nytimes.com/2023/05/09/opi…

And if other countries emulate/retaliate with their own green industrial policies — well, that will actually be a good thing. It would be more efficient if we did this without any protectionism, but if this is what it takes, so be it 3/

Great startups don't get noticed by using tricks to get people's attention. They do it by making something so amazing that people tell their friends about it.
