Congrats to International IDEA and Kevin Casas on this useful report! Totally agree that “recent years have been marked by declines in the fabric of both older and younger democracies”.

#Elections are core to the democratic process. Good meeting with partners in election observation, reaffirming that shared principles & comprehensive methodology safeguard our role as neutral and impartial observers at the service of the citizens in all the countries we work.

Can't agree more! Inclusive registration is a prerequisite in any elections. Decent treatment of all candidates and citizens no less important!

I echo the concerns expressed here by UN rapporteurs, particularly as OSCE/ODIHR hasn’t yet received an invitation to observe the forthcoming presidential election in #Belarus A full assessment of the electoral process depends on our ability to send observers sufficiently early.

Today I was appointed by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as her Special Representative on Elections. My tasks will include conceptualizing and preparing the foundations for good elections in #Belarus, engaging Belarus citizens and working with international partners.

Right now Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Pavel Latushka speaking at #clubhouse about future of Belarus. Speaking not TO the audience but WITH the audience. Great to join Franak Viačorka, Anton Motolko and Ihar Mahaniok. Stay tuned - we will do something on Belarus elections soon.

There is a huge role for OSCE and Ann Linde as CiO to play in facilitating negotiations as a way out of political crisis and towards democratic elections in #Belarus.

Despite the demand from citizens, now there is “no political will to hold honest elections in #Belarus”. We can and will change this. See today’s interview. news.tut.by/economics/7195…
