This is an historic photo. Congratulations to William Brame (who took the photo) for realising this was a different white butterfly. Now confirmed by Chris van Swaay as a Southern Small White - the first seen in England. As it is a female let's hope it has been laying eggs.

I've cleaned-up this charming 1910 autochrome portrait of a young cowgirl in a man's world, photographed in colour 115 years ago by Mrs Benjamin Russell. It is indicative of the time that her surviving collection of autochromes are identified in historical records and museum
