As I start my assignment as Deputy Representative with UNICEF Afghanistan, I look forward to working alongside a dedicated team to advance the rights of every child and woman in #Afghanistan. Together, we can make a lasting difference #ForEveryChild. Dr. Tajudeen Oyewale UNICEF South Asia

As the new school year starts in Afghanistan, almost 400,000 more girls are deprived of their right to education, bringing the total to 2.2 million. All girls in Afghanistan must be allowed to return to school now. Catherine Russell's statement: unicef.org/press-releases…

4-month-old Bibi Hawa was brought by her mother to this health centre in Samangan, #Afghanistan, to get her polio vaccine. Her mother proudly told me, "I never miss a vaccination." With our partners, UNICEF Afghanistan vaccinated over 11.6 M children under-5 against polio last year.

Such a joy to meet these energetic young girls in the Baboos village community classroom! They all told me how much they love learning together. Asian Development Bank supports more than 7,700 of UNICEF's community-based classes in Afghanistan for 236,000 children... including 159,000 girls!

Today, UNICEF Afghanistan launched Afghanistan’s Integrated Child Nutrition & Development Program and master training, marking a strategic shift that recognizes nutrition & child development are inseparable. Grateful to EUinAfghanistan for enabling this in 50 daycare centres in Kabul.

In Bamyan’s Foladi valley, I met inspiring health workers who’ve achieved over 90% immunization for children under 5. In a country where 1 in 3 children miss out on vaccines, this is extraordinary! The impact of long-term investment & dedication, with World Bank's support.

It was a pleasure to travel to Bamyan with Isabelle Moussard Carlsen, Head of OCHA Afghanistan, as she nears the end of her remarkable tenure in #Afghanistan. For over four years, she has served with compassion and courage in one of the world’s toughest humanitarian crises. Wishing you all the best.

Community-based classrooms are lifelines for girls’ education in #Afghanistan. They only work when female teachers are present. In Bamyan, I met bright young girls supported by their dedicated female teachers. UNICEF Afghanistan and World Bank are proud to support female teachers.

With water systems damaged by the earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan, safe water is one of the most urgent needs. Thanks to flexible funding, our emergency water trucks are out delivering safe water for drinking, cooking and to help families maintain good hygiene. UNICEF Water

A week on, UNICEF, supported by EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺, is providing cash assistance to help families cope in the aftermath of the earthquakes. And with flexible funding we are trucking safe water to displaced families. More in our flash update👇 unicef.org/afghanistan/do…

It’s heartwarming to see the smiles and resilience of children who suffered incredible loss in the eastern Afghanistan earthquakes. In our new child-friendly spaces, social workers offer psychosocial support, making small steps towards healing UNICEF Deutschland
