I work in a School of Management, which I often remind people is not all about business. Research on effective management can benefit charities, community groups, political campaigns, interest coalitions, art collectives, activist circles...

Anonymous question “Being a graduate student, it is important to be able to think on partially unknown topics. But I struggle in thinking and I hardly get any questions. How do you tackle this problem? What do you do to get thinking on topics and be more inquisitive?” #PhDVoice

Zoom fatigue is not burnout. It’s boreout. New study: when meetings are virtual, we’re not overwhelmed—we’re understimulated. Cardiac measures show drowsiness, not stress. The antidotes are common sense but not common practice: fewer, shorter, more interactive online meetings.

For me this is the biggest and most important challenge when writing papers: Telling a coherent and compelling story. It's one reason why it's good to talk to people about your results before writing them up. Practice telling the story of the paper over and over until it's right

Finished watching this in less than 24 hours. My best first watch of 2024! Highly recommend watching this if you are like me and want to make informative dietary choices. Also, a very cool study looking at the effects of vegan and omnivore diets on identical twins! Stanford Medicine

The new co-editor of Theory & Society believes that sociology moved away from “science” because of “the changes in the demography of sociology." In other words, it became less white and thus less scientific. This makes me think of chanda.bsky.social prescod-weinstein’s notion of white empiricism.

If self sabotage was an olympic sport, I'm sure I'll do something to go from a gold medal winning position to eventually come 4th!

Ended an interview today and the informant said "I'm so grateful that you're doing this, and that you have the courage to do this. It's the fact that you are giving this whole issue the respect of studying it." Safe to say, it brightened up my whole day! Academic Chatter™

Today I asked students to briefly explain (via online participation survey) why they were taking my History of the Holocaust course, and I feel genuinely quite emotional reading their responses? People dedicated to hatred of Gen Z can actually go kick rocks tbh

To put it bluntly - All of Us Strangers deserved as much hype as Saltburn received. The movie had me bawling on a Saturday night. Beautiful story with a masterful execution!! Kudos to Andrew Haigh! #MovieReview #AllOfUsStrangers #Saltburn

i don’t believe you’re ever fully “ready” for anything. sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. you’ll learn as you go.
