I could never have imagined when I was studying O-level Biology that a UK Supreme Court would ever have had to make a ruling on whether ‘sex’ means objective, scientific, biological sex or “certificated sex” based on a subjective “acquired gender” assertion of self-identity.

A very costly battle for some women, who have lost livelihoods, been arrested or ostracised for simply believing and stating that ‘woman’, in law, means biological sex. I hope devolved and local government, news media and institutions of education all now clarify their policies.

An extraordinarily optimistic view of human nature, especially of that which manifests on social media. A free speech network which is totally uncensored and uncancelling will attract hordes of cranks or deplorables whose desire is to deceive, abuse and defame. It'll be a sewer.

I remember this by Camilla Tominey. I didn't comment, but stellacreasy blocked me for some reason. It has taken two years, and some brave women have had to fight hard, but J.K. Rowling can at last issue the riposte: ‘Stella Creasy is wrong in law – a woman with a penis is a man.’

“I've seen the legacy of sectarian religious politics” Indeed, the video circulating in High Wycombe exhorting Muslims to vote for anti-Israel Muslim council candidates, warning “Don't sell your soul as Allah sees everything”, constitutes undue spiritual influence. It is illegal.

This is quite interesting philosophically, on the ontology of biology. Is what constitutes ‘woman’ different from that which constitutes ‘biological woman’? And what constitutes ‘biology’ in that category? Clearly, as with feminism, opinions differ within (shared?) ‘womanhood’.

And those who today are fulminating that the King mentioned Islam in his Easter message. These people seem to have little understanding of the mission of Christianity, or, indeed, of the theology of St Paul, who also praised aspects of other religions (cf Acts 17:16ff).

I note that Maugham is now soliciting funds to appeal the Supreme Court ruling to the ECHR. I find it extraordinary that such an unblemished KC should consider himself more supreme than the Supreme Court; and that people might be misled into pouring their money into his fantasy.

It gives me some optimism that tomorrow we might read: “I have always supported the foundational autonomy and specific freedoms given to academies and free schools which permit the operational dynamism to innovate and create the bespoke offers which improve educational outcomes.”

I had a small reminder today of how blessed this country is. On a whim, my wife and I decided to go to the Maundy Thursday service at Winchester (@wincathedral). It was a gorgeous April morning, and England's ancient capital sprawled sybaritically under a blue sky. The cathedral

I'm not sure why people are criticising the Prime Minister for this. He's an atheist, and his Easter greeting is thoughtful and gracious. In fact, it is more Christian in its compassion and gospel expression than much of judgment coming from Christians. I appreciate it.

‘For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.’ —Psalm 22.

This is an important observation, and another example of the Conservatives either not understanding conservatism or consciously eschewing it. If it weren't for the bravery of women on the Left, this gender-mania would have become absolute social orthodoxy (as it very nearly did).

.Shelagh Fogarty asks for evidence of this, and she's given an anecdote. Philosophy is about reflecting and reasoning. There isn't an undergrad mark scheme which penalises a line of argument. Whether gender-ideological or gender-critical, the focus is on reasoning and evaluation.

I find it extraordinary, in the wake of this week's UK Supreme Court judgment, that I haven't heard BBC News (UK) or Channel 4 News interview anyone from For Women Scotland, whose victory it was. Thank you @GBNews Camilla Tominey (and your producer) for securing their Director, Susan Smith.
