If you collect dissolved nutrient samples, you NEED to read this. If you're not filtering the samples immediately, in the field, using 0.2 um filters (or 0.45 if you really must), then you're likely not measuring in situ nutrient concentrations. You seem to write that the ratio of *predicted* copios:oligos doesn't mean anything about soil, even if at genus level. Is that so?
