The fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire is a week today. The shocking revelations from the inquiry have been heard by too few. So here is a thread which I will update over the next few days with some of the things you may have missed:

Planning Granted: Some positive news for a friday as planning has been granted for 3CS- A new type of commercial building for Birmingham: one that has sustainability and post-Covid requirements at its core. This has been an exciting project to work on.

These aerial images (from relinkbelfast.com) of Belfast's Westlink dramatically show how massive roads within cities cut them apart - and how finding ways to soften that divide, in this case by covering the road and creating a park, can reconnect detached parts of the city.

In reality this is the majority of our new built housing. We fill in fields Willy Nilly with housing that locks you into car dependency & increases car usage igniting a cycle of bigger roads , more parking and dispersed communities which in turn “warrants” more of this housing

Just over £10k raised so far in the online fundraiser for the artists and organisations who've lost so much in the fire at Cathedral Buildings. Can you help them get to £15k? gofundme.com/f/artists-lose…

A genuine piece of important advice to clients procuring a building. Do not base your choice of the architect who designs it on the relatively insignificant difference between the highest and lowest fee. Base it on whether they are any good or not.

Listening to the public broadcaster @BBCRadioUlster you would expect a balanced discussion about Jim Allister remarks instead Stephen Nolan mocked the very idea of #cycling so here’s some rebuttals to today’s show. A #thread

I’m a firm believer in the power of small scale interventions to improve our cities. Around a year ago Julian Manev and myself developed some ideas for various locations around Belfast with Destination CQ BID : nice to see some of them coming to life.

Jeremy Hunt is saying we cannot max out the national credit card this morning. This is total nonsense. There is no national credit card. Instead it’s the job of government to make the money we use. And since it can always make that money it can never max out on credit.

#openbotanic who says pedestrianisation kills business. It looks to me like Botanic Avenue is far busier than Ormeau road today which seems to be suffering for cramped pavements , excess parking , dangerous parking and generally too many cars and not enough people. #deadormeau

Great morning presenting to UU arch. Masters students on our Low Carbon commercial development in Lambeth currently on site. Inspiring to hear about the environmental focused aspirations of students and show how we FCBStudios are applying them in real life projects.

Depressing. These buildings offered so much potential. There is a real issue in the attitudes towards historic buildings. They are the life and soul of the city.

BELFAST BICYCLE NETWORK: UPDTAE — The BBN delivery plan was released on Mar 31, 2022. It is scheduled for completion in ’31. Since then there's been no obvious progress on the ground. We asked the DFI for an update on routes 1–53 i.e. the uncompleted routes. 🧵 1/6
