This is what injustice looks like. When discriminatory laws push NYers into poverty, forcing them to lose housing. Why is our City fining people instead of allowing licenses to work?

I’m always proud to stand alongside our NYC street vendors!

Our economy is incomplete without vendors & we need to work with our agencies to reform vending & lift the caps on licenses. We need a regulated, predictable & enforceable system that protects workers & lets them work!

Another day, another victory for Corona Plaza!

Thank you to Flagstar Bank for your $100,000 grant to Queens EDC, which will pay for on-site, Spanish-language digital literacy classes here at the plaza to help our vendors grow their businesses.

The work continues.

The Sanitation commissioner said they avoid a 'license check first approach' for vendors, instead focusing on sidewalk obstructions and cleanliness.

That's after the caps on vending licenses have come under fire in recent years (eg NYPD handcuffed unauthorized fruit vendors)

Why does that matter?

Vending licenses and permits have been capped for decades.

Just a few thousand are available for the 20k+ vendors in the city, mostly working class immigrants.

Waitlists are in the tens of thousands.

It can take years to get one, if ever.

NYC Sanitation officials promised not to target street vendors just because they don't have a license.

But ticketing data tells a different story.

OVER HALF of the 1,400 tickets they issued were for vending without a license or permit.

After back-to-back NYPD sweeps along Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, street vendors on Thursday marched to City Hall and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to demand that the City Council pass a law to lift the cap on street vending licenses.

Ensuring street vendors can access business licensing is not just common sense, it's good fiscal policy

“Three years after the City Council passed a bill meant to expand the number of vendor licenses in the city, City Hall is still dragging its feet while the NYPD arrests and harasses food vendors”

Don’t believe us that it’s impossible to get licensing to vend? That laws haven’t changed since 1979?

We rallied at DCWP Licensing Center to prove it

@nyccouncil must act now & pass the Legislative Package. We need fair regulation to help small biz succeed!
