Remember all the outrage at the 'Hostile Environment' for illegal migrants?

Well Keir Starmer says he wants the UK to be a 'Hostile Territory'.

No doubt this wording will cause exactly the same outrage, right? Right?

'The smugglers run off - they've had a good night - but one told us they now had a shortage of customers and blamed the impact of the government's Rwanda law'

SO THE DETERRENT IS WORKING THEN.

Labour’s big ideas:

➡️ Scrap Rwanda e.g. have no deterrent.

➡️ Amnesty for small boat arrivals because they would scrap Rwanda and have nowhere to send them.

➡️ Re-brand Small Boats Command, which was set up by this Conservative government and is led by a British army officer.

They are targeting one woman because of her race & nationality. Nothing else.
By terrorising her into staying hidden in a hotel they have personalised it.
They are not ‘protesting’. This is an old fashioned Jew hunt

After last year’s short and shallow recession the UK economy returned to growth in Q1 2024 — up a better-than-expected 0.6%. Even GDP/head was up 0.4% after seven stagnant quarters. Still a long, hard slog to reach decent growth but at least the rather miserable IMF/OECD/Bank of…

'The figures mean the UK grew at the joint-fastest rate in the G7, surpassing the US and tying with Canada.'

ECONOMY: With only Japan left to report, the UK was the joint fastest growing economy in the G7 in Q1 2024, with Canada matching the 0.6%.

This is a straight-up lie from Rachel Reeves.

Monthly real GDP level:
- October 2022: 102.3
- March 2024: 103.0

For the mathematically challenged like Rachel, the second number is *larger*, which means the economy is *larger* now. ons.gov.uk/economy/grossd…

So Labour’s “plan” is to:

🤷‍♂️ Rename a policy the Government launched last year
🤷‍♂️ Scrap Rwanda and remove all deterrents
🤷‍♂️ Offer amnesty to everyone who’s already crossed in a small boat

ECONOMY: The higher than forecasted GDP growth for Q1 2024 has nudged the UK back into 3rd place in the G7 for cumulative GDP growth since the Brexit vote of 2016.

Today's 0.6% GDP growth figures outclass the EU peers by a mile.

Should , Remoaners & 'Citizens of Nowhere' now 'clap for Brexiteers' at 7pm on Thursdays?

Where does the 0.6% bounce in in Q1 leave the full year forecasts from the likes of the OECD, IMF and Bank (0.4-0.5%)?

Obviously they all look too low now (some of us thought that at the time 😉), but still a long way to go.

FWIW, here's an indicative path for the…

Not just out of recession.
Not just faster than expectations.
This is a genuinely good growth rate, the first 'trend growth rate' we've seen in years. Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt will be delighted

This.

The approach being hailed by Labour is just continuing what was already being done - which we already know was not sufficient.
