NYU admin is threatening suspensions for students at their Gaza Solidarity Encampment if they don’t leave by 12pm today, a threat which came out shortly after Columbia threatened similar to students with a 2pm deadline today.

One of many consistencies in so many university statements the last seven months is how rarely, if ever, they seem to realise that they may have Palestinian students and faculty, let alone from Gaza.

Following a rally held by Student Workers of Columbia, organizers have asked protestors to picket around the encampment until 7 pm tonight.

There is a lot of notices, fear, consultation, misinformation floating around the Columbia ecosphere this morning. But in the Gaza Solidarity Encampment there is also oases of calm. And music.

Arm in arm, faculty at Columbia University have made a blockade at the entrance of the encampment while students picket around the perimeter.

As university leadership and lawmakers double down on the idea that Columbia’s Gaza Solidarity Encampment is a threat to safety, here is what it looks like at midday: quiet and peaceful. As usual the greatest threat of violence and escalation comes from outside this encampment.

Columbia began distributing notices at the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” Monday morning, informing individuals present that they have until 2 p.m. to clear out, identify themselves to a University official, and commit to abiding by University policies.

“The University has already identified many students in the encampment. If you do not identify yourself upon leaving and sign the form now, you will not be eligible to sign and complete the semester in good standing.”

BREAKING: University delegates are inside the encampment handing out notices to protesters that say, “If you do not leave by 2 p.m., you will be suspended pending further investigation.”
