I've been thinking a lot about Macron's decision to call for snap elections, and the consequences it may have on French and European politics, and I think I've cracked the code.

The article by Lawrence McKay Will Jennings (I'm not here, see you at 🦋🧵 ) Gerry Stoker now appears in our JEPP SI 'Regional Inequality & Political Discontent in Europe'. It shows that perceptions of geographic bias are widespread across five European democracies. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

I have a short article in The Conversation with Gerry Stoker about policy fatalism, where we argue that (1) people are very skeptical about govts ability to deliver but (2) they demand govt do more. This is a bind the next government will have to address. theconversation.com/british-public…

Overall, we* find that trust in "representative" institutions has been declining by ~10 p.p. among democracies since 1990, but trust in "implementing" institutions has been rising! *Myself, Will Jennings (I'm not here, see you at 🦋🧵 ), Gerry Stoker, Dr. Hannah Bunting, Dan Devine, Lawrence McKay & Andrew Klassen

Fantastic workshop! As my facial expression reveals, I am not used to embracing positivity, but the energy was infectious! Lots of great ideas in the pipeline here

I joined with the wonderful Parth Patel and IPPR for this analysis of voter turnout in the UK elections, and our findings were pretty stark. Not only was turnout historically low but the gaps between different kinds of places in the UK are clear. 🧵theguardian.com/politics/artic…
