Please don't get me wrong - there is much in the book that offended my feminist sensibilities. But overall... It is thought provoking.

Listening to this ATM. What a beautiful book. Highly recommend. It appears as 'just' the story of his attack and his healing but it is so much more. It's about speech, art, thought, writing and it is all told with Rushdie's characteristics light touch and honesty.

Personally, I think we’d have made more progress in the ‘men can be women’ debate if more of us had said: ‘Fuck off with this crap’ sooner.

Left, feminist, GC/materialist, and interested in political economy/economics?

If this is you (or someone you know) get in touch.

Interesting view that omits:

1 that the open letters made no argument

2 the open letters called for discrimination

3 the authors were cross examined as to their prejudices and motivations

And the OUGCRN was not advocating anything other than doing work we were paid to do.

Last night I attended the launch of Sister in Law by Harriet Wistrich. A fascinating chronicle of the career of a feminist lawyer fighting for & bringing justice for the victims of coercive control, spycops & Worboys the taxi rapist to name just a few

Oh Sally. Please stop. You are turning the individual's perfectly peaceful and perfectly lawful right to protest into a drama.

They had their say.

You know how twitter works. I suggested that ppl needed to not see the individual as 'the problem'

None of this needs your…

No. This is wrong. It took a OUGCRN can exist and we recognise the harm. It took a side. They failed in their inability/unwilling to do what I've heard time and again - they failed in seeing it as critical / lies and debate.

It was never about academic freedom. It was always about bullying. You cannot go arrive saying *all black ppl this*, *islam causes harm to Catholics*

☝️ is not free speech. In a workplace accompanied with calls for discrimination is unlawful. FFS read the damned judgement.

I say all this 👇 whilst also acknowledging that there is a place for forthrightness between academic peers.

I got asked a question by someone (Dr Kate Davidson (?)) about why did I said to Prof Hines that I take offence at formulation GC=toxic, all GC far right connected to…

I felt for him. If he has been told that GC=toxic, not taught to critique, not taught that there is riches in diversity and plurality, not taught that politics is the art of persuasion and that you can be respectful of difference - including on fundamental beliefs about the world…
