Unsolicited advice to prospective PhD students: it’s a great idea to apply places where there are individual scholars you want to work with. But vet these people first as individuals. Some of the most famous scholars are intractable, anti social, or outright assholes.

In this blog post, based on my experience & observation, I argue that although “helicopter” (or “parachute”) research is bad, there are other extractive & unethical practices within international health collaborations that can harm researched communities. Please read and share!!
