Not just baleen whales love to eat krill! Here is a chaetognath having a meal. As they are so translucent you can see the already consumed section inside. Big gold hooks hold its prey, big enough to see here. #plankton #northumberland #coast #DoveTimeSeries

Very cool to see Metopa alteri amphipods found in January 2020. This was first described from collections in Northumberland coast in 1857. 🦐#DoveTimeSeries It was also collected 63 years ago by Jo Bossanyi using his bottom plankton net to find critters in bottom waters.

1) Ecosystem change, it seemed slow at first and then, appeared all of a sudden. 14 yrs ago we saw Pelagia noctiluca was moving northwards; identified via DNA in plankton samples royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…. Yesterday, my boat was surrounded by these jellyfish, they were observable.`

Check out this very cool zooplankton PhD at Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde. It will be working with Jörg Dutz, who is part of the ICES WGZE. A brilliant opportunity. io-warnemuende.de/en/jobs.html

Nominated in the top 5 presentations at #ICESASC24. How cool is this? Philippa Grundy speaks about her masters work in fisheries. Amazing.

Amazing work by Sarah Coulthard, Pheobe Lewis and Ainsley Hatt in the Pride in the Seas (2) England, featuring 23 fisherman and scientists from inshore fisheries and coasts. It was showcased fantastically at #icesasc24, showing challenges and passion alike.
