It's great to see the Commonwealth Housing Minister Clare O'Neil MP talking about the importance of zoning reform! Let's see how the federal government can help the states make it happen!

The ACT government's current plan of setting up a legal advice service for NIMBYs to allow them to more easily sue the ACT government's own public housing and infrastructure projects is a spectacular own goal, potentially the worst public policy idea this decade.

My stated preference has always been for a new 3-bed house with a backyard, located near family and right across from my local shops, for under $500k. Many people hear ‘new 3-bed house’ but ignore the possibility that I might trade that off to achieve my other housing goals.

Jon Stanhope is confused why Canberrans are calling for ‘missing middle’ homes. But it was his own government in 2002 that banned new townhouses in most of the ACT, making mid-density homes a rarity. We don’t blame him for forgetting though - it is ancient history after all.

It's taken us 20 years for the ACT Government to get over the planning debates that occupied everyone back in the 2001 election - let's not go back

Great op-Ed from Howard in the Canberra Times today - upzoning is good for affordability, sustainability, and the budget. Building more homes in the places people want to live means lower infrastructure costs, a bigger economy, and stronger tax revenues. buff.ly/3TBof9c

One of the most unexpected things out of Purdon's recent analysis of suburban zoning reform was the conclusion that adopting Missing Middle Canberra would generate around 10 billion in additional revenue on the conservative side through to 2060, through the ACT's land tax systems.

Building a brand new district of Canberra in Kowen would take time. The Canberra Liberals need a credible plan to build the homes Canberrans need now - and that means committing to missing middle zoning reform. Read our statement below, or on our website buff.ly/3BeAa6P

The good: opponents of social housing have at least become somewhat ashamed of their NIMBYism. The bad: they’re still NIMBYs. The ugly: until social housing projects are designated a ‘Territory Priority’, they can still be held up for years at ACAT. buff.ly/47zqXSB
