Goldilocks is an elusive blighter in these parts, so it was great to re-find E.O. Pate's record at Godscroft this morning from 1967.

Star of Bethlehem, Sticky Catchfly (Edinburgh City & County adopted flower and in ENHS logo) & Forked Spleenwort (rare in England & probably not common in Scotland) made up for my upset at rampant dog in Hunter's Bog earlier. Fascinated to see flowers of the high-altitude Downy Willow (Salix lapponum) at absolutely hoaching with queen White-tailed Bumblebees (Bombus lucorum) this week. The montane willows provide a vibrant nectar source for pollinators in the uplands 😍🤗🐝🐝

Not seen arctic bearberry (Arctostaphylos alpinus) flowering since 2021 so was hoping I’d see some this year, and here it is with Sgúrr na Lapaich (the Glen Affric one) as a backdrop!

I took these almost exactly a year ago, but how could I resist sharing them for this Wildflower Hour - the incredibly rare Edmondston’s Chickweed (aka Shetland Mouse-ear), endemic to Unst. wildflowerhour

Sub fossil birch, from a peat bog today in the Cairngorms, alongside the much more common ancient pine stumps. Going by research on the pine in this area, this birch is probably over 3,000 years old!

Rather exciting botanical find on Liathach today- Cyphel (Minuartia sedoides)! Seems to be a new site, with only a few records in the whole of Torridon. Only the third time I've seen it too!
