Sub fossil birch, from a peat bog today in the Cairngorms, alongside the much more common ancient pine stumps. Going by research on the pine in this area, this birch is probably over 3,000 years old!

Rather exciting botanical find on Liathach today- Cyphel (Minuartia sedoides)! Seems to be a new site, with only a few records in the whole of Torridon. Only the third time I've seen it too!
