This morning, it was cool & overcast, perfect weather for walking with George & enjoying Orchids in west Fife. I saw over 62 Marsh Helleborines, a new one in Fife for me, big thanks to last years finder Richard Smith, & Susan Falconer. 👍

Frogzilla Orchid in Orkney today! These are a regular, if difficult to find, element of our maritime heath in late summer, and are often very tiny, a centimetre or two tall. This one's an absolute bruiser! Jon Dunn 🇺🇦

Two asphodels growing together in a flush in Glen Shee (Scottish Highlands) today: Scottish Asphodel (Tofieldia pusilla) with whitish flowers in left half of photo, and Bog Asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum) with unopened flowers of a more yellowish colour.

A wee snorkel at Arisaig in the NW Highlands brought into view this fabulous seagrass (eelgrass) meadow. Seagrasses are the only flowering plants that live in seawater and pollinate while submerged. #wildflowerhour BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

The fantastic Tall Bog-sedge (Carex magellanica), left, and the also lovely Bog-sedge (C. limosa), right, growing together in a wonderful species-rich mire by Aberfoyle. Definitely SSSI designation worthy, with several nationally scarce Sphagnum moss species also present.

Cranberry infected by a microfungus Exobasidium oxycocci, also known as Cranberry Rose Bloom, which causes these rather ghostly deformed shoots. On bog fragment near Callander.

We've been Alpine Blue Sow-thistle monitoring this week, visiting previous translocation sites at Marlodge, Glenfeshie and Glenlochay that were planted in 2021. NatureScot Net Zero Scotland #NatureRestorationFund #ScottishPlantRecovery #cicerbitaalpina #TeamRBGE Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

My survey route yesterday passed within a few hundred metres of this patch of alpine cat’s-tail (Phleum alpinum) & I couldn’t resist the detour! What a wee stunner.

Found 3 out of 4 target species at Daugh of Invermarkie, Huntly, today. Success with coralroot orchid, lesser tussock-sedge and twayblade in surprisingly heathy habitat. No luck with frog orchids though: too late, too rank no longer there or simply missed them?

Wow, amazing news! Huge congratulations to our friend, orchidologist & top plant spotter Richard Dr Richard Bate, who has refound Britain's rarest orchid after 30 years! As its #PlantAtlas2020 page says, this is 'the most arduously sought British plant' plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9h.…
