The hepatic mat webinar can now be seen on the Swedish Bryology YouTube channel. Also some nice little taxonomic videos including one on Andreaea rothii/rupestris - delightfully called the 'sooty mosses' in Sweden. ? something for the BBS to consider 🤔 youtube.com/@mossornasvann…

Abundant lesser tussock-sedge (Carex diandra) in some lovely rich fen on a client's farm. Alongside the bottle sedge, marsh cinquefoil, bogbean, plentiful tall forbs & numerous brown mosses (including Calliergon giganteum), this is NVC M9b.

Great to find this shady horsetail (Equisetum pratense) at work the other day, a new site for the species. First VC106 record since 2007 & only 4 other records from the vice county.

Client's site this week has been pretty fantastic for getting good VC107 records: common twayblade, chaffweed, allseed, bird's-nest orchid, bristle club-rush, northern bedstraw, field gentian & plenty else in the heaths, mires, grasslands & woodlands.

Some nice botany during & after joining Indy Kiemel Greene, Katie Monk, Dan & Olly for their #MarineMiles: pale butterwort, tea-leaved willow, autumn gentian, one-flowered wintergreen & creeping lady's-tresses. Golden eagle on the drive home too plus a mouthy osprey.

Waheyyy! Found my main target for this site on the last day of survey: c40 plants of pyramidal bugle on a wildfire site. Also shepherd's-cress, nice species-rich bearberry heath, false brome abundant in young regenerating woodland, globeflower, heath pearlwort... Nice!

Having seen both Donna Rainey & Kevin Walker's devil's-bit scabious (Succisa pratensis) meadow pics, here's my contribution, from the horse-grazed fields out the back of the house. Staggering display!

Saw the other day that someone’s gone along a significant stretch of the A82 through Glen Coe pulling up all the roadside ragwort. To what end? In what’s really a pretty depauperate landscape already, remove the only thing really providing much late summer nectar 🤷🏼‍♂️

Saw there hadn't been a bog orchid (Hammarbya paludosa) record in Glen Coe (or its offshoots) since 1955 which I felt was a glaring omission from its flora, so was keeping an eye out & was happy to spot 5 plants right by the path on one outing last week.

Another nice record was this goldilocks buttercup (Ranunculus auricomus), first record for Glen Coe since 1995. Loads of lovely parsley fern (Cryptogramma crispa) & grass-of-Parnassus (Parnassia palustris) nearby too.
