#OnThisDay in 1944 : No. 617 Squadron, aka the Dambusters, attacked the lock gates of the Kembs Dam to prevent the Germans flooding the area and stopping the Allied advance. Avro Lancasters were armed with massive 12,000 lb Tallboy bombs. 2 out of 13 bombers were shot down.

Today three F-35 Lightnings departed RAF Marham to return to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in the USA. This is in preparation for their upcoming operational testing on board the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in the waters off the East Coast of America.
