I can’t stop thinking about the fact that the American Academy of Pediatrics has 0 qualms about confidently putting out guidelines for TWO YEAR OLDS to receive weight loss interventions and… are not mortified to do so? I wonder how many of these doctors have financial ties to the diet industry.

As an eating disorder therapist, the amount of clients who’s eating disorders were triggered by a pediatrician visit is staggering. The American Academy of Pediatrics KNOWS that weight loss for teens leads to increased EDs (& ironically leads them to be higher weight) but I guess $ is louder.

In my office, I regularly see severely ill teens with eating disorders that were triggered by a pediatrician telling them to lose weight. The new AAP guidelines promoting bariatric surgery & weight loss medication for children will only create more eating disorders. 💔
