This time last week, we were launching #TheStateOfTheArts report in Parliament with the University of Warwick. The findings are stark, but change is possible. Let's work together to ensure that opportunities in the arts are there for everybody. 📸 Alex Brenner

To ensure arts access in every community, local authorities are absolutely crucial. We support the Local Government Association (LGA)' call for long-term, sustainable and multi-year funding for our councils.

It’s been shamefully lost in the violence and chaos we’ve seen across the country in recent days, but Southport is a community in mourning. Beautiful pictures from tonight’s vigil in the town from Colin Lane

Drawing: Possible causes of your problems. I've been appalled at the scenes we've witnessed over the last few days. It's utterly unacceptable that people should have to live in fear because of the colour of their skin. [Polite comments only, please.]

Our series #Defiance repeats on Channel 4 tonight, Tues & Weds. Please let colleagues, friends & family know, particularly the non-South Asian origin ones. We need to build some mutual understanding of our histories if we’re going to work out how to build a better future together

The biggest predictor of success in the arts isn’t how skilled, passionate or imaginative you are. It’s how well-connected and well-funded you are. We need volunteer mentors in London, Manchester, and Merseyside to change this unjust status quo one connection at a time!

🚨 NEW: the decline in arts education at A-level has reached a new low. Our analysis of today's results finds that arts subjects now account for a smaller proportion of A-level entries than at any time since 2010. Over that period, there's been a 31% drop. #ArtsEducationMatters

We’ve got an exhibition at the brilliant 17 Midland Road gallery this week for anyone in Bristol. It’s free and unticketed, Thursday to Sunday, 11 to 4. Lots of material from various interventions there and a load of pix. Opening same day our new book comes out. Hope you like it
