San Antonio has often been the center of Mexican American culture & activism. Today, I joined Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI), Ron Nirenberg, Councilwoman Teri Castillo & others to push for the designation of Emma Tenayuca Memorial Way on Cevallos St from I-35 to Probandt to honor her life as a labor leader.
I was proud to join Councilwoman Teri Castillo, Joaquin Castro, Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI), and Emma Tenayuca's family to announce a Council Consideration Request that honors Emma's legacy. The designation of Emma Tenayuca Memorial Way will be the first of many commemorations of San Antonio's heritage.
"The plan is about the future, to educate generations, now and then, about the contributions made by people like Emma Tenayuca to our community and to the world.” Emma's memorialization is just the start.
