2/5 “Resilience during and after adversity requires the capacities to bear strong feelings (‘affect tolerance’), modulate them (‘affective processing’ or ‘affect regulation’), and govern their expression so that they lead to adaptive rather than destructive outcomes.”

While #RUOKDay began with good intentions, we desperately need greater ACTUAL support of MH services in Australia. Once people have realised they are ‘not okay’ there are few professional avenues through which support can be obtained

Were you the “good kid” who “parents never had to worry about”? Watch out for those kids. They may turn up in therapy 10-20 years later with repressed emotions, overfunctioning, and the inability to ask for help because they’ve always had to be perfect.

Knew it was coming but am still so, so disappointed. The solution to the bottleneck in Psychology is increased training opportunities, not underfunding vital #Mentalhealth care. abc.net.au/news/2022-12-1…

On the same day Labor have confirmed they want to “compensate” (hand over public money) to multinational coal corps. they have also announced they are cutting the 10 extra Medicare funded psychologist sessions. Cutting Medicare & giving $$$ to coal corps. That’s modern Labor

How much louder does the mental health lobby need to be to enact meaningful change? In EVERY survey you see going around, the community tell us that mental health is their greatest concern and most important to them. This is disappointing politics. abc.net.au/news/2022-12-1…

Things that would actually improve mental health care that aren't cutting sessions: (1) increase funding for postgraduate training- we have 10-20x the applicants as we have places and run at a loss, (2) allow 5+1s access to Medicare rebates, (3) *increase* rebates per session.

"We should not pretend to understand the world only by the intellect; we apprehend it just as much by feeling. Therefore, the judgment of the intellect is, at best, only the half of truth, and must, if it be honest, also come to an understanding of its inadequacy." - Carl Jung

“The complicity & silence of bystanders - friends, relatives, & neighbours, not to mention officials of the law - feel like a profound betrayal… Often, survivors will feel the bitterness of these betrayals more deeply even than the direct harms inflicted by perpetrators.”
