You’re not just saying “stop using drugs.” You’re also telling someone to stop managing their pain, coping with depression, connecting with others, fulfilling sexual desires, enjoying moments of rest. Less concern about the use and more care about the reasons for using.

“Just say no to drugs” isn’t viable as a public health strategy for a number of reasons, chiefly among them being that there is no evidence that drugs can hear or comprehend language.

Recovery is not defined by abstinence. Recovery is not defined by rehab. Recovery is not defined by 12 step. Recovery is not defined by counselors. Recovery is not defined by programs. Recovery is not defined by others. Your recovery is defined by you. Full stop.

Harm reduction isn’t anti-recovery, it’s anti-coercion.

A reminder, the reason you struggle to get an ambulance, wait hours in A&E, days for your GP, months for your hospital specialist, and your operation keeps getting cancelled, is because this Government refuses to support the NHS, even during a pandemic. They just don’t care!
