Have a group project on your syllabus this semester? It's great for teaching collaboration, but it can also be ripe with racism and terrible outcomes for students of color if you don't sufficiently support groups. Learn from my mistakes (and research) 🧵

We’re running practice cases for our oral surgery exam like we’re in an Allstate commercial. “I’m a 52 year old man, and I’ve been in pain for weeks.”

We have a winner! Anything left vacant and dormant will inevitably become a Spirit Halloween. Very archeologically accurate. 10/10

Because I am getting this question dozens of times in my DMs from trans people/parents... If you're trying to move for safety: Countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, France. States: Any blue state on my risk assessment map, which I'll update post-election.

People keep saying “We survived him before and it’s no different now”, but it is different. Last time, when the hate speech and personal attacks started, students went to cultural and LGBTQIA+ centers and DEI offices to get support. But many of these places have been shut down.

There is a push among some orgs, "moderate" legislators, and even trans people to "give up the sports issue" in hopes that will stop hate. I have watched moderates try this in 23 state houses. It doesn't work. There's no amount of give you can offer that stops them from taking.

In undergrad, an NSF-funded program for URM students provided my first-ever research experiences (paid!) & kept me involved in science despite my financial hardships. Then the NSFGRFP provided critical support for me as a grad student. The NSF changed my life. What do we do?
