How will ASEAN and the world respond to Min Aung Hlaing's outright dismissal of his commitment at the ASEAN Summit to an immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar? How about with strong coordinated sanctions an arms embargo and engagement with a legitimate partner - National Unity Government Myanmar?

Last weekend ASEAN risked that Min Aung Hlaing might do what he actually did – use the Summit as a propaganda ploy. Indeed, he tried to appear to be what he is not - a legitimate leader. The good news: Those who ARE legitimate are ready to engage: the National Unity Government.
