THREAD: I keep being asked when we can go "back to normal" or "like it was before". My personal thoughts: We've added a new disease to our population, more infectious and more severe than flu. The world pre 2020 no longer exists - we may want it to, but it just doesn't. 1/13

The whole "open back up" covid thing reminds me of how people treat homelessness. They don't want to end homelessness, they just don't want to have to hear about it or see it or feel guilty for not doing anything to help end it or make it easier for the people experiencing it.

This is a story that needs to be brought up every. single. day. It is completely unconscionable that @skgov is actively suppressing data on deaths and that they are dictating what health info Saskatchewan Health Authority shares internally at all. #SkPoli #Covid19Sk 1/2

Dude, you sought a court injunction to prevent a quiet young man who'd walked 600 km to meet you from camping in a park. Pick a lane.

Rather, the ED is where systemic failures are seen. Our current challenges include nearly 400 admitted COVID patients, a lack of long-term care capacity, and blocked access to core specialties such as family medicine and psychiatry.

The strategy proposed by Jeff Walters 🇨🇦 to achieve an inquiry into the COVID-19 response is interesting. Basically they are attempting to trigger a plebiscite via public petition. Once triggered the electorate will vote on whether or not an inquiry should be held #skpoli

These are four recent headlines that I think will define the status of our health care system for the foreseeable future. Pre-existing strain exacerbated by increased COVID related demands, health care worker burnout, and collapsing primary care. 1/2

Maybe we could keep/reinstate mask mandates for a bit while we figure out this liver failure issue that’s mostly affecting infants and toddlers, our littlest littles, a group that has literally no way of personal responsibility-ing their way through this? Just a thought.

Dennis Kendel Government of Saskatchewan Scott Moe I’ve been wondering this too - how can @skgovcaucus simultaneously brag about its economic performance while not being able to fund essential services like education?

Canadian healthcare is complex and is facing many challenges. However, any region/province that makes family medicine an extremely attractive field (structurally, politically, financially) will simultaneously address many other problems.
