Passionate about software, tinkering on the web, and dabbling with FP. Never done learning. I'm not a robot.

Is it worth the effort to use identical column names to take advantage of the JOIN USING shorthand? Asking for a friend. ;) #postgresql #sql #schema

People often ask how Figma prioritizes its roadmap. Itโ€™s a hard question, which Iโ€™ll try to tackle over time in small bites. This first thread is about user input 1/n

Richard Bird passed away last night, after a long illness. He was hugely influential in FP, including Haskell, and in MPC. He will be remembered for the elegance of his work and his writing. He was also my supervisor, my colleague, and my friend, and I will miss him greatly.

I once was asked in the interview โ€œwhat makes you get up in the morning?โ€ Replying โ€œWell, we canโ€™t sleep forever, right?โ€ didnโ€™t seem to impress the interviewer Never heard back from them ๐Ÿ˜†

tbh, my experience of working with more junior engineers is that left to their own devices they will absolutely (on paper) complete most tasks more quickly than I will, and my role has primarily been teaching them to slow down and think more intentionally about what theyโ€™re doing

โ€œโ€ฆ effort spent on something that is not a constraint is a waste. If increasing the speed and stability of your software delivery capability is not the constraint on your ability to achieve your organizationโ€™s mission, you shouldnโ€™t focus on it.โ€ - medium.com/@jezhumble/resโ€ฆ

A really cool idea for REPL: The 'explain' command that takes a piece of code and describes its every part in a beginner-friendly way. I don't recall any programming language doing this. Here's my prototype for OCaml ๐Ÿ‘‡ What do you think?
