“It felt like this invisible person was following me. It became really frightening and I got really unwell. I didn't feel safe” We spoke to the BBC about why we are calling for an end to Oxevision, CCTV and similar systems in psychiatric ward bedrooms bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

In a week where we be been told that as an occupational therapist I shouldn’t share an opinion on the validity, reliability or harms of a diagnosis, I really appreciate Royal College of Occupational Therapists sharing this. We’ve heard “get back in your box” too often. Loud and proud ✊

The argument that we need to keep BPD as a diagnosis for access to care falls apart when we remember it has always been used to justify not only a lack of treatment, but outright discharge. Overstretched services don’t make it more necessary—they make this dynamic even worse.

Just wondering if there is a kind of retirement home for burnt out, disillusioned lived experience workers? #askingforafriend

New paper published today but a long time in the making. A critique of the pseudo-diagnosis of complex emotional needs. We outline a number of concerns and risks of the term which has quickly become widely adopted in the NHS. Bethan Edwards cambridge.org/core/journals/…

"This is particularly troubling as it shifts the responsibility for neglectful services onto the individual; the statement becomes ‘the patient’s emotional needs are too complex’, as opposed to recognising where the services provided are insufficient to meet a patient’s needs."

Goading like this is a real thing and surprisingly common in psychiatric hospitals. Hear Chloe and us - and remember dispatches and horizon a couple of years back that literally showed that.

The Department for Education have just published a beautifully illustrated guide to Working Together to Safeguard Children - making key messages more accessible for children, young people, families, and practitioners. While we welcome the new guidance, it is disappointing to see

1/ Currently, people who are thinking about coming off SSRIs or other psych meds are faced with a serious dilemma: there are ZERO SAFE OFF-RAMPS from psychiatric drugs available within the conventional mental health system. 🧵🧵🧵
