Last minute preparations for Sheffield RSC 2023! The conference starts in 5 days - hope everyone's as excited as we are!

#SheffRSC2023 has begun!! Early arrivals were treated to pizza at Proove yesterday, and official registration has just opened today! Exciting stuff😃

Monday recap 1/4: In the morning we were treated to a fantastic talk by Professor Jennifer Visser-Rogers (Prof. Jennifer Visser-Rogers) about her efforts to improve the understanding of statistics through the media (and debunking bad statistics)! We even got party hats and dice! 🥳🎲

Monday recap 2/4: After our midday meal, Dr Nic Freeman gave an intriguing talk on mean curvature flow and the motion of hybrid zones (hybrid zones serve as thin interfaces between animal populations that are genetically distinct but still able to breed)!

Monday recap 3/4: Then followed the poster session! Lots of brilliant posters on display (and a fair amount of refreshments on offer too)!

Monday recap 4/4: finally, after our evening meal, we capped the day off with a pub quiz (hosted by yours truly). Shout out to our winners: ‘quiz is just real life, quiz this just fantasy?’!! 🎉🎉🎉

Tuesday recap 1/3: With the conference well underway, Tuesday was a day full of amazing contributed talks, engaged audiences and statistical head scratching 🧠

2/3: We then listened to a great talk by David Miller entitled ‘finding your niche in statistics’. Interesting from both a research and a career point of view!

At the end of the day, we ventured to ‘Lane 7’, to play some bowling and arcades! 🎳 Another busy day 😅

Wednesday recap 1/4: Even more fantastic talks from attendees, covered all sorts of topics from probability modelling to ecological statistics!

Wednesday recap 2/4: Our keynote speaker was Richard Wilkinson (Richard Wilkinson), who gave a very interesting talk on statistical methods for building digital twins for patients with heart disease!
