Life is too short to love in muffled tones, to love tentatively. Love loud. Love boldly. And when it ends, love again.

Poverty is bad. But the fear of poverty- the main driving force of Nigeria's (pseudo)middle class- is much worse. It controls everything. Dictates morals. Defines goals. It is the reason Nigerian professionals will destroy their life's work to become an idiot politician's aide.

Taxes. And I’m not even trying to understand.

Once you leave Nigeria and step away from being fully immersed in Nigerianness you realize how much extreme violence has been normalized in interpersonal relations, even among friends and family, talk less of strangers. Verbal violence, physical violence, sexual violence.

Just arrived the Goethe University Frankfurt to give a lecture this evening on Satire and Politics in our age. Looking forward to engaging with academics researching the subject.

The issues aside, it has been a while since I have seen such a well written letter — from a language, communications and PR perspective — from a Nigerian “politician”. I am often shocked at statements written by otherwise somewhat decent writers on behalf of Nigerian politicians.

Standing on Hazel Eyes’ balcony looking at all of the lush green around me. Raindrops make the leaves sparkle all around. But I think it is not as bright as the light in my soul. The leaves do not sparkle half as brightly as the love in my heart.
