All my children

A little over a year ago, I wrote a poem about desolation, grief, & hope. The wonderful @bansheelit selected it for publication in their Issue 17, my first appearance in print (avaiIable now). Ahead of receiving my own copy, I wanted to share "Words of the Weeper" with you all:

When I started seriously examining textiles, oral traditions, photography, print media, & other sources as “archives”, the women’s lives became visible in unexpected ways. It’s fitting that I learned to tell their stories this way b/c the women themselves had limited literacy.

This is insanely petty and inappropriate. Don’t be this kind of professor. Treat your students with respect.

Even aside from the wildly inappropriate “teaching” technique here, a students personal time is their personal time. If they’d rather spend it without you or your colleagues, you need to be an adult and respect that without being petty.

Tim Gill I caught a grad student of mine using a stall in a bathroom at a conference once. I was pretty furious. You’re basically saying ‘I’d rather sit here alone than network with my peers at the urinals.’ I snapped a photo and told him someone sent me it. That woke him up real fast.
